Why People Fail Marketing From Home

First I should probably clarify that when I talk about marketing from home I’m referring to people who are building their own home based business, not those that have a job working from home for someone else. This could involve selling products or services you’ve created yourself, selling someone else’s products as an affiliate, or building a network marketing business.

There are many different business models and there have been success stories with all of them. However, in my opinion, for the average person that wants to work part time from home, network marketing is the best business model.

Why would I say that when it’s common knowledge that 95% of people starting a network marketing business fail? First of all, according to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 95% of all small businesses fail within the first 5 years. Therefore, it’s not the network marketing industry that is the problem. So, what are the pitfalls that cause people to fail, and how can you avoid them?

The four main reasons that people fail include the following:

Check Mark Lack of money

Check mark Lack of activity

check mark Lack of people to talk to

check mark Lack of skill and knowledge

These four reasons for failure apply most specifically to the network marketing industry, but it could be said that the same reasons apply to any small business. The Lighthouse Marketing book provides a discussion on each of these problems and how to avoid them.

I agree with you that most people fail in ANY type of business, so it’s not just network marketing. But you know what? The average millionaire goes bankrupt 3 times before making it to the top.

So I say- keep trying!

Great article. And, its not only useful to the struggling entrepreneur, it great for the successful leader to help her/him understand why their team is hurting.

Walt Disney claimed BK 9 times total before he succeeded. Why should we be any different. Failure is just a learning opportunity!!!

Learn some, huh?

Rick,
So many people come into network marketing thinking it is a “get rich” quick system. Good training is a key to success.
Thanks for the great article!
