Why Social Networking Helps With Copy

As I’ve mentioned before, copywriting is a critical part of any marketing plan. Most good copywriters will tell you that in order to write quality copy you need to understand those that will be receiving your copy. It is very difficult to effectively persuade, motivate, or sell someone if you don’t understand them in a way that will allow you to connect with them.

With all the new social networking tools now available it has become easier to research niche markets and determine who belongs in the niche as well as their concerns. With Twitter people will tell  you what they’ve been doing and what they are interested in. In forums and on social networks people will express their concerns and desires.

You can use these resources to simply ask people in your target area questions that will help you to better understand them. Questions such as what keeps them awake at night, their top daily frustrations, what are they afraid of, what are they angry about, what do they desire most.

Once you’ve begun the process of understanding your target market you will be in a much better position to determine what the recipient of your ad, email, letter, etc., wants. Then you simply address thier priorities in your copy. Of course there is more to actually writing than this, but unless you know and understand who you are writing to you will be at a distinct disadvantage.
