Email Marketing With Safe Lists
If you have been doing much email marketing with safe lists my question to you is…has it worked for you?
I realize there are probably thousands of different safe lists, which in and of itself indicates to me that they must have some merit. On the other hand, I wonder how many of them are left over from an earlier time period when people’s in boxes were not already overwhelmed with emails.
From a common sense point of view, how would you like to send your commercial emails to people you do not know, who are expecting to receive email from you, but only because they want to send you their pitch email?
Here’s what’s happening. Everybody who is on these lists, also known as safe lists, knows that they will be receiving emails from other members. This is possible because that is one of the requirements of their participation with the “safe listâ€.
Those who join these lists are willing to agree to this condition because they themselves want to send out their own commercial emails to the others on the list.
The result: everyone is sending emails to each other but no one is reading them!
I believe many sign up for the membership using a free or less-frequently-used account to store the useless emails that they will delete in bulk without ever bothering to open and read for themselves.
It seems to me that safe lists are a time consuming way to send emails to thousands of people without getting spam complaints, but also without having your emails read. I think that it would be wiser to start your own mailing list and build it with opt-in subscribers. The numbers may be much fewer, but you have a better chance of having the email read.
If you disagree, I would like to hear how safe lists have worked for you.
Thanks,
Rick Armstrong
