Finding Customers In A Recession
For a number of months now it’s been common to listen to the news and hear stories about how the sky is falling. Sales are down in most industries and, oh poor me, what am I supposed to do now? I would agree that it is more difficult finding customers in a recession that are ready to buy, but it’s certainly not impossible.
The recession not withstanding, we still have a greater number of relatively new and ascending middle class millionaires than ever before, as well as a large and pretty stable ultra-affluent population. In addition, there is a larger number of boomers holding a greater concentration of discretionary spending power than any previous 50 to 70 year old age group.
So, where do you find people today with money that may be ready to buy what you have to offer to them? One strategy is to follow a successful advertiser who has already found the prospects you want. Someone selling to the wealthy may be advertising in upscale city magazines, or magazines read by art collectors, racehorse owners, yacht owners, etc. Many of these magazines have their subscriber lists on the rental market, thus making their readers accessible to you on a local or regional basis.
Finding customers may involve you working harder, or differently than you have done in the past. But, people with money are out there, waiting for you to offer them what they want. It’s time to go find them, just do it!
