Direct Mail For The Internet Marketer
Utilizing a form of direct mail in your Internet marketing business can give you a distinct edge over your competitors who rely totally on the Internet as their marketing media. It’s true that direct mail is probably going to be more expensive and it takes longer to see results. But it’s also true that it helps to break you out of the clutter where your message has a better chance of being seen.
I don’t know about you, but I have five separate email accounts. A personal account and a number of separate business accounts. I receive so many emails each day there is just no way to read them all (even if I wanted to). Like so many people, I scan through them to see if I recognize the sender or if a subject line grabs me. If not, they are deleted without being read.
When the postman delivers mail to my home there are usually a number of marketing pieces included each day. My separation process for these marketing pieces is similar to my email selection process and many end up in the trash without being read. However, there are not nearly as many direct mail pieces to sift through and there are effective techniques for direct mail that significantly increase the probability that a piece will be read.
An effective, simple and low cost direct mail format is a postcard, or over sized postcard. Research indicates that post cards have a much higher success rate than other forms of direct mail with respect to their message being read. As a result it’s a valuable tool to include along with your normal Internet marketing strategies.
With a post card you will still need to have an effective message being sent to your target market. But assuming you have accomplished the first two goals (an effective message and a targeted market) then there are a number of things you can do with this type of media (a postcard) to increase your response rates. If you have not had much experience marketing with postcards give it a try. If you would like to know some post card techniques that will be helpful to you, just leave a request in the comments section for this post. I will email some proven post card marketing strategies to you as quickly as I can.

Rick,
I’d like to have a copy of your post card tips, but I don’t want to leave my email for everybody in the world to see. Is there another option?
