Five SEO Mistakes To Avoid

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is something that anyone can do at any time with any website,
but someone attempting SEO should not go into the process blindly. There are certain skills you
should learn, rules you should be aware of and guidelines you should follow when optimising your
website in the search engine world.

Using relevant keywords, meta tags, titles of your articles and the value of the content you are
providing are all important elements, but there are SEO mistakes that can actually lower your ranks
on engines like Google. When you do this right without making the following five SEO mistakes, you
can increase traffic to your site immensely and increase your profits, customers and your business's
success.

1. Lack of Content

Forums are popular, blogs are popular and article sites are popular. Why is this? Search engines love
content. Adding high amounts of content to your site adds great value to your website, because the
engines pick up movements and action and send Internet users to you. The content, however, should
be informative, original and be of a high quality. Keywords should also be used wisely throughout.

2. Outdated or Old Content

Maintaining a successful website takes work and not many people realise this. If you do not change
your content frequently, update information about your business, your promotions and develop-
ments and if you do not add interesting modifications, there will be a lack of movement and search
engines will shy way. The more your website changes, the more it will move up in the search engine
ranks.

3. The Use of Images Where Words are Crucial

If you use images in the place of titles, text or headings, they do not act as keywords, which means
you lose that potential of directing traffic to your site. Google and other engines look specifically for
titles and headings, so the best places to put keywords would be there. Definitely use images to make
the site interesting, but in less crucial positions.

4. Too Much of a Supposedly Good Thing

A big and common SEO mistake is overuse of keywords. Too many keywords let your ranks fall
drastically in search engines. Use your relevant keywords approximately every 100 to 150 words and
make sure they feature in your headings, as well as (very importantly) your tags and links. It helps to
have your main key phrase in your URL.

5. Not Enough Links and Meta Tags

Meta tags refer to title, description and keyword tags and shouldbe included on every page on your
site. Make sure each page revolves around a "theme" or centre point and "tag" words that convey
this in the best possible way.

Avoiding these five SEO mistakes will make your website search engine "friendly" and will help you
optimise your site in the best possible way.
